In video game lore, a Simple Key is a vital exploration item featured in both Team Cherry’s Hollow Knight and its sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong. In both games, these keys are flimsily made, universally fit any “simple lock,” and break permanently after a single use. Finding them grants players access to optional areas, critical NPC services, and late-game content. Simple Keys in Hollow Knight (Original Game)

The original game features exactly four Simple Keys and four matching locks scattered across the Kingdom of Hallownest. Locations: Dirtmouth: Purchased from Sly the Shopkeeper for 950 Geo.

City of Tears: Tucked away in a room guarded by Winged Sentries, located just below the City Storerooms stag station.

Ancient Basin: Hidden at the bottom-left loop of the map. Reaching it requires using the Crystal Heart ability to dash past spikes and searching inside the carcass of a massive Mawlurk.

Colosseum of Fools: Acquired by breaking a secret wall to the right of the arena’s outdoor cage area and defeating the fleeing Pale Lurker. Where to Use Them:

Confessor Jiji’s Cave: Located on the far right side of Dirtmouth. This unlocks a vital service where Jiji summons your Shade from anywhere in the world in exchange for a Rancid Egg.

The Royal Waterways: Unlocks the heavy hatch floor grate located in the lower sections of the City of Tears.

The Pleasure House: Opens a locked tower elevator door in the King’s Station district. This gives you access to Marissa the Ghost and Millibelle the Banker.

The Junk Pit: Unlocks a golden glowing cocoon cocoon hidden in the garbage heaps. This releases the Godseeker and opens up the massive Godmaster expansion content. Simple Keys in Hollow Knight: Silksong

In the Pharloom kingdom of Silksong, Hornet must track down another set of four Simple Keys to solve localized environmental roadblocks. Locations:
